My name is Valérie, and I opened La Maison Bleue in 2007 with a simple wish: to share the quiet charm of Bordeaux in a space that feels real, warm, and human.
This house is our family home. I live here, I restored it with care, raised my children under its roof, and hosted for many years international students eager to learn the French language and culture. It’s a place of care, memory, and transmission.
Out from the festive crowds of medieval center, La Maison Bleue is located in an elegant, peaceful part of Bordeaux, with excellent transport links and easy access to the Atlantic coast and the Pessac-Léognan vineyards. This is Bordeaux at its most discreet and timeless.

An inhabited house
With almost four decades of experience of Bordeaux, its customs, the places worth visiting and those best left to the tourists, you’ll find the most impartial advice from us. We spend a lot of time exploring our region and experimenting with different leisure activities as a family. So don’t blame us if you turn up unexpectedly on a Sunday afternoon … and we’re not there. Lifelong Bordelais
You’ll enjoy an authentic Bordeaux setting. Our house (échoppe: local name) with its remarkable, listed facade is located in one of Bordeaux’s favorite neighborhoods for raising children. Cosy but not snobbish, just a stone’s throw from the city center, it offers single-storey homes in a verdant setting. Like St Seurin, Croix Blanche and Jardin Public, the St Genès district is prized for its quality of life, thanks to the presence of shops.
By opening our home to you, we hope to introduce you to the best of the local lifestyle.

Minimum use of chemicals
Daily cleaning of your bedroom and house is done with simple but effective natural products.
During the COVID 19 crisis, we favored “physical” rather than “chemical” disinfection measures (UV, ozone, heat/steam) wherever possible.
The garden is tended by predators or natural products. Figs and plums from the garden are used to make jam. We compost waste at the bottom of the garden, which is reused in the garden.
All linen is washed with vegetable-based detergent and steam-ironed by us. We use no fabric softeners or tumble dryers. Sheets are treated by an ESAT (washing 60°C and ironing 190°C), which enables us to contribute to the employment of mentally handicapped people.
Resource saving
With your permission, we can visit your room. To avoid washing clean linen unnecessarily, we change towels after 3 days or when they become too damp. We choose “devoured” type towels to allow them to dry quickly during the day. If you’d like them changed, just put them on the shower floor or let us know.
In order to avoid generating unnecessary waste, we provide you with hospitality products in large format and not in single doses. The same applies to jams, cotton, etc.
The house is thermostatted at 20°C. If you’re used to working in a maternity hospital, or live in communally heated accommodation, remember to pack a little wool. In summer, as the house is old and made of stone, the temperature in your rooms on the first floor is cool.
The house is equipped with LED bulbs, and appliances are used during off-peak hours, when demand is lowest. We limit waste at source, recycle and compost. Our vehicles are electric.
